What's New

Every index page now shows the earnings behind the index level, derived as the closing value divided by P/E, with a chart back as far as published prices allow and a one-line summary of how fast earnings grew. Sign in to see earnings growth, price growth and the P/E change side by side over 1, 3, 5 and 7 years, so you can tell a re-rating from real profit growth. Charts also gained a note when a metric's published series starts later than the index values.

PE, PB and dividend yield history now reaches back to launch for 66 indices that previously started in June 2018, including Smallcap 100, Smallcap 250, Private Bank and Infrastructure. Their medians and PE vs forward returns use the full history, and the forward-returns block now appears with a 3-year view where 5-year data is still too thin. Where an index has a stretch with no published value, such as PSU Bank's PE from February 2018 to January 2021, a short note under the chart now says so.

If you already had a password, the Settings page offered "Set Password" without a current-password field, and saving failed with "Current password is required". The page now knows whether a password exists and shows the right form.

The feedback form asked everyone to complete a reCAPTCHA. If you are signed in, your account already vouches for you, so the captcha no longer appears and the form submits directly. Visitors who are not signed in still complete it.

The Indices page was taking several seconds to open. Each visit rebuilt the whole index detail from the database, and the database node serving those reads had slowed down. Reads now go to a healthy replica, and each index's detail is kept ready for an hour and refreshed as soon as new data arrives, so switching between indices is close to instant.

Clicking a sign-in link that had already expired or been used, or a Google sign-in that did not complete, used to land on a bare error page. You now return to the sign-in page with a short explanation and can request a fresh link right away. Visiting www.indexpe.in also redirects to indexpe.in so sign-in cookies are never split across the two hosts.

New here, or never sure what the labels mean? The dashboard now offers a short tour: what Undervalued means, the three metrics, comparison windows, and alerts. It opens on your first visit, and you can replay it any time from Settings.

If you signed in from an index page and went straight to setting an alert, you could hit an "OnboardingRequired" error. Alerts no longer wait on the onboarding questions: any signed-in account can create and view them right away.

The rolling returns section on index performance pages just got clearer, thanks to a sharp question from a user: how can the latest 10-year return be 14% when 86% of 10-year windows returned above 15%? Both numbers were correct, they just answer different questions: Latest is one single window (the most recent period ending on the latest data date), while the distribution table covers every possible holding window since the index's data began.

The UI now makes that relationship visible. In the "How often each return range occurred" table, the range containing the latest window's return is outlined for each holding period, so you can see at a glance whether the most recent stretch was typical, unusually strong, or unusually weak by the index's own history.

The stats table also explains itself better: a caption spells out that Median, Best, Worst and Std dev summarize all windows while Latest is just the most recent one, and hovering the Latest column shows exactly which period it covers.

Dividend Yield is now a first-class metric across IndexPE, alongside PE and PB. The dashboard has a third toggle: switch to Div Yield to see every index's current yield, its historical median for your chosen comparison period, and a valuation label that reads yields the right way around, a yield above its own median counts as Undervalued because rallies push yields down. Filtering and sorting work just like they do for PE and PB.

Index detail pages gained the same toggle: the yield chart, the full historical-medians comparison table, and a percentile view showing where today's yield sits within the index's own history.

Alerts got the biggest upgrade: you can now set alerts on PB and Dividend Yield, not just PE. Pick the metric, a target value, and above or below, and we email you when it crosses. Existing PE alerts are unchanged.

Index pages now explain the rules behind each index, including the universe it selects from, constituent selection criteria, rebalancing frequency, and any weight caps. The information is summarised from NSE’s official methodology document and links to the full PDF, making it easier to understand how each index is constructed without digging through methodology documents.

The performance data outgrew its card, so it now has its own page. Index pages show a compact summary (headline returns, volatility, beta, and one-line teasers), and the new Performance page in the sidebar holds the full detail for any covered index: official factsheet returns, rolling-return distributions, and the new PE vs forward returns matrix, which shows what buying at PE levels like today's historically returned over the following 3 and 5 years. Pick an index on the page or jump straight from any index page, signed in.

Index pages now show rolling returns, computed from NSE Total Returns Index data going back to each index's inception (1999 for the Nifty 50). For each holding period you see the median, best, worst, and latest annualized return plus the standard deviation, and a second table shows how often each return range occurred: for example, 35% of all 5-year Nifty 50 windows returned 10-15% a year, and none were negative.

The 1-year view is free for everyone. Sign in (free) to unlock the 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year views, the first signed-in-only feature on IndexPE.

Two related changes. First, we backfilled PE, PB, and dividend yield history to each index's beginning, 1999 for the Nifty 50, so the chart now offers 10Y, 15Y, and Max ranges (you can finally see the dot-com era IT bubble or the covid earnings collapse in context), and the dashboard lets you compare against 10-year and 15-year medians.

Second, valuation labels now compare today's PE against the 5-year median instead of the 7-year one, falling back to whatever shorter history a young index has. Recent history is the fairer yardstick for a verdict; the deeper medians are all still there in the comparison table and chart for you to judge against yourself. About 15 indices changed labels with this recalibration.

Index pages now have a "Performance and risk" section, right below the chart. It shows price and total returns (with dividends reinvested) across QTD, YTD, 1 year, 5 years, and since inception, plus volatility (standard deviation) and beta versus the Nifty 50, all sourced from the monthly NSE factsheet. Returns beyond one year are annualized. Valuation tells you what you are paying; this tells you what the index has delivered and how bumpy the ride has been.

The "Stocks in the index" section now shows weightage. The top 10 constituents are pinned to the top of the table, sorted by their official weight from the monthly NSE factsheet, and the sector chips now show weight percentages ("Financial Services: 37.0%") instead of stock counts. Weights refresh automatically each month as NSE publishes new factsheets, and the section notes the exact as-of date.

Index pages now have a "Stocks in the index" section: the full constituent list with symbol, company name, and industry, plus a sector breakdown showing which industries dominate. Sourced from NSE Indices, refreshed weekly, and available for 130 of the 136 indices we track (a few ESG and Shariah indices are excluded because NSE no longer publishes their lists). A few small improvements to the dashboard:

• Mobile daily change — the daily % change now appears on mobile cards alongside the current PE/PB value.
• Mobile price data — expanding a card on mobile now shows the index level, 52-week range, and position bar, matching the desktop experience.
• View Full Details placement — the link to the full index page is now at the bottom of the expanded panel, below all the data.
• Cleaner table — the Exchange column has been removed. It added noise without adding much; exchange information is still visible in the expanded view.

The sidebar can now be collapsed to give more room to the data. Click the toggle button in the top-left corner to switch between the full sidebar and a compact icon rail. Your preference is remembered across sessions.

The dashboard now shows where an index closed and how it moved.

Daily change column — a new Change column in the table shows today's price movement for every index, colored green for gains and red for declines.

Price section in expanded view — click any row to see the closing level, 52-week high and low, how far the index sits from its 52-week high, and a visual bar showing where it sits within its annual range.

The "View Full Details" links in the dashboard table were broken and not navigating correctly. This is now fixed, so clicking the link from any index row takes you to the correct details page.

Index valuation data now updates the same evening, usually by 8 PM IST. Previously, data arrived in the early hours of the morning. There is also a fallback update at 6 AM IST for any days where NSE data is delayed.

You can now see a log of everything that has changed on IndexPE. Find it in the sidebar under "What's New." Updates are added with each release so you always know what has improved since your last visit.

After exploring the app, you may now see a short prompt asking how IndexPE is working for you. It takes under a minute, is completely optional, and helps us understand what is most useful so we can keep improving the platform.

You can now sign in without a password. Enter your email address on the sign-in page and we will send you a one-click link that logs you straight in. No password to remember, no friction.

Your selected metric, comparison period, category filter, and valuation filter are now reflected in the URL. You can bookmark a specific view (for example, PE ratios vs 5-year median, filtered to Sectoral indices) and return to it directly, or share the exact view with someone else.
